For High Schools

High School Workshops

Story Hunter workshops are now available for high schools! We have adapted several of our workshops to suit students in grades 7 & 8 and we are now excited to announce that high schools can book 90 minute incursions in Character, Setting, Tension Building or Editing. These are held in your school classroom or library, with a minimum group size of 20.
Story Hunter high school programs – creative writing workshops for Years 7 and 8

Character

Get beyond eye colour and favourite food to dive into what makes your character someone we want to read about. How is your story influenced by their personality? And how can you show the reader who they are?

Setting

How do writers create evocative settings and atmosphere in just a few lines? In this workshop, we dive deeper into imaginary worlds and how we can transport our readers to different places, whether a fantasy kingdom or a fast-food restaurant.

Tension Building

More than just a series of events, a story is a journey with highs and lows. How do writers make the tension rise and fall? What are ‘stakes’ and why do they matter?

Editing

Edit like a professional! All writers edit and rewrite, but beyond spelling and punctuation, how do you know what to look for? And how can you make your story stronger? Students will need a draft story to bring to this workshop.
